Welcome to Grooms Cottage, Etchingham Road, Burwash, Sussex, TN19 7BD.
A charming home, offering characterful accommodation in the beautiful Sussex Weald.
Grooms Cottage is set in delightful countryside between the villages of Burwash and Etchingham with its main line railway station. The locality is designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', making this a great location to get away from the pressures of modern life, relax and unwind amid the spectacular scenery.
Grooms Cottage is the perfect base to explore 1066 country, with the historic town of Battle a few miles distant; Rye and the Romney marsh a little further. Also with easy reach are the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, the seaside resorts of Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne and the county town of Lewes. For a day out, the City of Brighton and Hove has much to interest everyone. Pretty villages with their ancient churches nestle in the landscape as they have for hundreds of years.
Our home, which we have painstakingly modernised, restored and extended in recent years, is set in a beautiful traditional English garden, which we have created to satisfy our love for plants. In our pond we are thrilled that a colony of rare Greater Crested Newts have taken up residence. Guests are welcome to stroll and relax in the garden, enjoying the stunning views and plethora of plants. On warm sunny mornings, we can also serve your breakfast on the terrace.
A frequent comment from people staying the night at Grooms Cottage for the first time, is how quiet and dark it is at night, one of the benefits of our rural location. Follow a sound sleep with a wonderful locally sourced breakfast and you are assured of a pleasurable break in the Sussex countryside.
Your hosts, Alan Loze and Mark Collins, guarantee a warm, friendly welcome and are always pleased to provide help or advice on the nearby attractions, countryside walks, local pubs and restaurants. There are miles of fantastic walks from our own doorstep, where you will be likely to encounter deer, foxes, rabbits and all sorts of other flora and fauna.
Mark is a keen and knowledgeable family historian and will be happy to give general advice to those coming to Sussex to explore their Sussex roots. He is also able to provide specific research assistance either during your stay, or remotely - please call us to find out more and charging rates.
